Chapter History

You have to know where you’ve been to know where you are going. Kappa holds a special place in its heart for Fraternity history, but every chapter of our organization has unique beginnings of its own. Each plays a part in shaping us today. Read more about our chapters’ histories in Kappa's digital archives.

Theta chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded on April 2, 1875. We were the first women's fraternity founded on Mizzou's campus. In 1880, the university banned secret societies on campus, but Kappa continued to meet and initiate members during this period. In 2015, Theta chapter celebrated its 140th anniversary and we have initiated over 4,000 members during this time.
